Have a nice day.” That’s when it hit me—whether it’s during my commute, while cooking, running, or winding down before bed, I am constantly tuned into live streaming channels.
This audiovisual format has not only become a source of immense companionship but has also opened a window to the world, offering glimpses into experiences far beyond my reach.
In February of this year, I trekked over a 4,500-meter-high mountain in Tibet, hoping to catch a glimpse of the beauty of birds that humanity cannot easily approach through the lens of a camera. As June began, heavy rains and floods hit many parts of southern China, and the live streams of rescue operations tightened my heart.

I grew up in a small town in southern China, spending as much time by the Qiantang River as I could. Summer is the season for enjoying watermelon while basking in the breeze from a fan. No matter how fierce the sun shines, I can still take leisurely strolls and play in the water by the river.
However, with climate change warming our planet, stepping out of my house for just two minutes now wraps me in a suffocating sensation, as if I might melt away.
In June, an unusual stretch of continuous heavy rainfall has caused flooding in several provinces in southern China, and my hometown is not spared. As I anxiously watch the live stream of the flood relief efforts on my hometown’s television channel, my heart is closely tied to my hometown, even though work prevents me from being there in person at this moment.
Earlier this year, I embarked on a trek across a 4,500-meter-high mountain in Tibet. My goal was to capture the beauty of birds through a camera lens, birds that humans rarely get close to. The journey was grueling, the path uphill seemed endless, and I admit there were moments of frustration.
But when we finally arrived, the sight before me was worth every step. Through the live monitoring cameras, I witnessed the tranquil beauty of bar-headed geese nestled together and black-necked cranes foraging with grace. It was in that moment that I fell in love with the thrill of exploration.
I am still an enthusiast of game live streaming. Over the past few years, audio-visual works presented in live streaming format have become an important part of my life, gradually replacing the core status of edited video works.
Furthermore, when I am busy with chores, such as cooking, cleaning, or running, I often have my favorite live streaming channels playing in the background. Similarly, when I struggle with insomnia or have difficulty falling asleep at night, I try listening to live streams to help me sleep.
I deeply appreciate the value of companionship in live streaming, which cannot be replaced by edited videos, because in the live stream, whether it’s the host or the audience, we all share the same moment in time, with similar preferences but without much interaction.
